Monthly Message: January 2003
Fellow Karate-ka:
Welcome to the New Year! Opportunity is
knocking on your door in so many ways for you in the new year of 2003.
Focus on what's interesting to you and try it out. Once you find what
you like then stick with it and be the best that you can be at it.
What you really need to know is that you
can do a lot of different things in life but you will find that you will
only be able to do a few of them well. In addition you will eventually
figure out that you can only do one thing well. That's the thing that
you should concentrate on for your whole life. Do one thing to the best
of your ability and be better than everyone else at it. This will help
to make you successful.
The problem for many of us is finding the
"one thing" that we really like the best. So it's important to try lots
of things in your life until you find what you really want to do.
Karate training will give you the
benefits to help you find your "one thing" by offering you challenges
along your path to black belt and beyond. By training in karate you
develop patience, perseverance, good attitude, balance, awareness, self
control, self esteem, physically fit bodies, discipline, humility,
peace, and many many more good qualities that will help you when you are
pursuing and doing your "one thing". By accomplishing each of the kyu
ranks (colored belt levels) in karate you are learning all of the above
mentioned qualities. You will learn to focus so well on what you're
doing that these qualities will transfer to every day life. You will
learn to defeat your worst enemy: yourself. You will learn to work with
others as a team. You will learn to communicate with others and not get
into arguments or fisticuffs. By working on yourself in karate you will
be training for your "one thing" in life. Who knows, maybe someday
karate might be your "one thing".
I call you to continue your training in
this new year. Learn as much as you can from me and my Sensei. Learn as
much as you can from each other. Learn as much as you can from and about
yourself. I challenge you to recommit yourself to karate in 2003 and
learn one step at a time by making each technique the best that you can
and by being the best karate ka that you can be so that you will prepare
yourself for your "one thing".
This is the way.
Sensei Dave
