I would first like to apologize for
the delay in getting a new message up. Things have been hectic, as
they usually are around the holiday season. I would also like to
welcome each of you into the new year.
With this time usually comes a
great deal of promises, often made to yourself. The infamous "New
Year's Resolutions" are upon us yet again. Some promise to eat
healthier, some to stop smoking, and some to practice their karate
harder and more often.
Personally, I feel the idea of a
New Year's Resolution is bogus. Do we live year-to-year, or
day-to-day? I personally live each day one at a time.
Because of this, I make what I call Revolution Resolutions. It is
a resolution one can make at the beginning of the year [revolution of
the earth], each month [revolution of the moon], or every day
[revolution of the sun in the sky].
Making a promise to yourself one
day, then following it with 364 of forgetting that promise will not make
it come true. If you want to be more fluid by this time next year,
or even next month, set that goal, and set smaller ones between today
and the end.
Warriors, those who train in the
traditional ways of the martial arts, no matter their origin, live in
the moment. To take one's goal out of the moment takes it from
your mind. If you wish to change something, don't say it once a
year. Say it once a day, once an hour, or however many times are
needed. Live in the moment, work in the moment, train in the
moment. All we have for sure is this moment.
Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is
uncertain. Use your time wisely.
