Fellow Karate-ka:
“Mind no mind”; you may have
heard the expression before. It is used quite extensively when speaking
about Zen or the martial arts. You can really get muddled down in deep
philosophy over the expression or you can understand it on its surface
meaning. I will try to explain the latter to you.
“Just do
it”. That’s really it in a nutshell. Do not think about it. Act and
react. Be like water and adapt and become. If you think about it then
it’s too late. I hope that one of these last few statements helps you
to understand that there is not great mystery to mind no mind.
Of course
you must develop this through constant repetition of your basics. They
must become a total part of you just like each of your body parts. If
you strive to do this then you will understand how your battle is with
yourself and not any one or any thing else. Empty your mind and flow
freely. Relax.
Confidence
in any area comes with knowledge and skill. So practice, practice,
practice and you just might defeat your worst enemy. Yourself.
This is the way.
"Empty
your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a
cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the
bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can
flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend." -- Bruce Lee
