Fellow Karate-ka:

Spring is definitely here. Wake up! Take time to enjoy what's around you. Take a deep breath (with allergy medicine) and enjoy new life.

This is a great time to renew your training spirit. Try practicing outside in the early morning. Try practicing outside in the evening. You will be surprised at how good this will make you feel.

The martial arts never end. They form a circle with no beginning and ending. Just as each of the seasons come every year your training evolves and comes back to the beginning. Your basics are always the foundation and the beginning and surprisingly the end of your training where it all just comes around once again to start over. Just ask any black belt that you know. They may be learning a new kata, but they are still standing in line with the rest of you trying to improve their basics.

Look at differences in the seasons, special occasions, celebrations, and anything else that is significant in your life as an opportunity to renew your spirit in your karate training. You will see how much more excited you will become about your training if you do this. Keep a very positive attitude and always approach your training with a beginners mind. This means to walk into training knowing nothing and you will learn much.

This is the way.
