Monthly Message: October 2003
Fellow Karate-ka:
This is the season for new students
entering the our dojo. Generally our student roster increases in the
months from October through February. This is the time of the year when
most people seek karate training. Some come as a result of Christmas
gifts and others come as a New Years resolution. Their karate training
depends a great deal on you my current students.
It is important that you realize that you
make a big difference on whether or not a new student wants to stay with
us after their initial sign up for our karate classes. You must
demonstrate a professional attitude in your training and a willingness
to help each new student. Additionally you must be friendly and
welcoming to any new student and provide them with a desire to continue
training.
During the next five months we as a class
must remember that there will be new students arriving to train and that
how we act and perform will either keep them coming or turn them away.
Always make sure to check yourself first. Make sure that your uniform is
clean and that you are following proper dojo etiquette. Introduce
yourself to new students and be friendly. Remember that you were once
new and were a little nervous. Help make them feel at home. Remember how
you felt when you had to meet the black belts let alone me. Do as much
as you can to ease their nervousness.
We need to increase our class membership
by 15 before the end of this year. We have 3 months to do it. Invite
people to our class that you know to give it a try. Tell them that we
offer a special 3 month program with no contracts. If they like what
they've done in 3 months, then we can sign them into our dojo on a
monthly basis or they can sign for 3 months at a time.
Do your part in helping our class grow
with new students and maintaining them when they sign up for karate.
This is the way.
