Monthly Message: December 2003
Fellow Karate-ka:
The end of the year is here. There are 29 days left before we begin
2004. Looking back over this past year I have determined that some of my
accomplishments were big steps towards bettering myself and some of my
accomplishments indeed helped other people to better themselves. There
were also failures. I believe that I learned the most about myself from
my failures.
All of my failures of the past year will definitely be left in the past.
As will all of my accomplishments. One cannot go back to fix the
failures or relive the accomplishments. One must continue moving forward
while trying to live in the present yet remembering the past. What one
takes from the past is what one has learned from it.
It is in the learning that we better our mind, body, and spirit
connection. In Nahashu Ryu Karate-Do philosophy we look to a deep
spiritual side of ourselves to better our physical and mental
counterparts. Our belief system enables us to grow with conviction in
our karate training. What we believe about performance of technique, how
the body works, how it is developed through training, and that any one
can learn to be effective at self defense no matter their physical
limitations or body make up all helps us to further our karate training.
We realize that all people are connected. We are truly all brothers and
sisters. We embrace this belief and work on improving ourselves by
helping others.
Nahashu Ryu is a way of life for me. It is a way of learning to
understand myself and others and realizing there are many ways to the
top of the mountain and my way is but one of them. It is a way that I
can better myself by helping others better themselves. The physical part
of Nahashu Ryu is only one third of the equation.
I
choose to live as honest and as good a life that I can while continually
trying to improve. I hope that part of what I do is found worthy by
others. I hope that I can help others on their journeys. It is really
all about helping each other anyway.
This is the way of peace. More and more people must learn this. To live
honorably and peacefully is the goal. It will not happen though unless
it starts within oneself.
Christmas Peace
This is the way.
